| - moonfall (this story is very much delayed because it happened a little while ago, but i felt the urge to post it anyway)
before the saturday matinee performance (3:00pm) of Aida (march 18th), jackie had fallen very ill. 12:00 that afternoon - i was sleeping - i get a "crisis" call from rosie (director) telling me jackie can't stop throwing up and they need me to play amneris. at first i thought this was a joke. then, thinking about the gravity of the situation, i realized what rosie was telling me was not a joke, nor was any of it false. they needed me - an ensemble member - to play amneris. i felt a little like christine in phantom of the opera; however, she had more than three hours notice. i was informed to arrive at david's house asap to learn the part. i wasn't that worried, nervous, and crazed until:
me: well at least i can put amneris in my resume dave: yeah me: but i wont include that i had to cary the script on stage, haha. dave: oh, no, you're not using a script. me: dave: yep.
i guess you could say it was pretty crazy. i knew most of the songs already by heart from repeatedly hearing them and singing them at home, but the lines i was not as familiar with. i managed to get the gist of the lines, enabling myself to later memorize them to a better extent. after running a few songs, we were off to Levels to run songs with the band, work harmonies, memorize lines, fit my costume, put on makeup, and go into a nervous breakdown. fun. my freaking-out-ness was pretty good footage for Danielle, who was making a documentary on Aida at Levels. somehow, i got through the show in one piece and (possibly) some. the Gods of Nubia probably came to my assistance. there isn't a big audience for the matinee performances, so it was a little less nerve-racking. thanks to those who came, though. and in case you didn't, my mom will probably make you watch it on our video camera if you'd happen to be at my house. luckily, jackie's health returned in time for her to perform in the 9:00pm show that night.
